Protect Yourself from Scams

When trying to find a host family for your au pair experience in the United States, please be aware that au pair organizations – like many other companies around the world – have fallen victim to fraudulent activity. This means there are people falsely representing EurAupair as well as other au pair J-1 visa sponsor organizations. These people use our name, they might even create application documents in EurAupair’s name to make you believe that you are in touch with a U.S. Department of State designated au pair program. Others might pretend they are a host family and would like you to become their au pair. The intention of these people is to receive money from potential au pairs and to secure their personal information. We would like to give you some tips on how to protect yourself against such scams:

• Always apply through a sending office in your home country. You will meet with the representative in person and they will assist with your application documents as well as the placement process. You will never receive application materials directly from a host family or from the EurAupair office in the US, only from our partner office in your home country.
• Au pairs coming to the U.S. on a J-1 Visa must enroll with a partner working with a U.S. Department of State designated sponsor organization – such as EurAupair – which conforms to all  Department of State rules and regulations.
• Never submit any money directly to a host family.
• Never transfer money via Western Union or MoneyGram to a host family or au pair program in the U.S. You will only pay your sending office in your home country directly.
• Be cautious about contacts via Facebook or other social media.
