Ukrainian couples usually have one to two children, and it remains a somewhat low average number of children per family in Europe. While families have become smaller it is still at the center of the Ukrainian culture, and it is quite common for grandparents to be actively caring for grandchildren and participating in their education. Parents tend to demand a better behavior, in public and at school, and can be perceived as stricter than the normal across Western culture.
Ukrainian au pairs will usually have child care experience through private babysitting of younger siblings and relatives, kids in their neighborhood, etc.
The procedure to obtain a driver’s license in Ukraine is quite complicated! It requires a series of written and practical tests. Ukrainian driving is known to be somewhat chaotic, which can also mean that your Ukrainian au pair will be used to paying attention to the surroundings and drivers around. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Foreign language instruction is mandatory in Ukraine, and four languages are taught: English, German, French, and Spanish. Nearly 90% of students choose to study English.

I have completed the knowledge and skill evaluations for the Emergency Care & Safety Institute Course. From November 2021 to March 2022, I cared for Damian (1). I cooked for him, played with him and sang to him. I have been caring for Isaac (3 months old) since October 2020. I cook, play, watch movies, go to the pool and each him basic words and numbers. From March to June 2022, I cared for Rafael (3). We do outdoor activities together, we play in the park and I prepare him snacks. Since March 2022, I have been caring for Emiliano (4). I've babysat Amir (2mths) and Miral (newborn) since August 2022 once a week. I play with them, change diapers, feed and bath them, put them down for naps and take them out for walks. I babysat Giacomo (1) from July to October 2022. I picked him up from school, took him to the park to play, bathed him, dressed him, and prepared meals. Lastly, I looked after Vera (7) and Alessandro (5) in July 2023. I played with them, helped around the house and prepared meals.

I really would like to become an au pair in the USA because it's been my dream since I was 15 years old when I found out the possibility to combine two of my biggest interests: children and English. I've dreamt about the USA since I was 11 years old and actually I can't put into words what are my feelings about the possibility to live one year there, I'm just really excited. Even if I know that this experience is made of ups and downs I think the time has come for me to put myself to the test. I have worked at an elementary school since January 2024 taking care of children ages 7 to 14 years old. My duties include assisting the younger grades with homework, reading and counting, playtime and general supervision, maintaining daily register of home time and means of transport. I worked at a preschool in April 2024 taking care of children ages 1 to 2 years old. My duties included changing diapers, putting down for naps, preparing bottles, feeding, assisting with class activities and supervising. First of all, I love travelling. When I was younger, my family and I visited a lot of German cities. We also hiked in Austria, went camping in France or sightseeing in Belgium and visited my grand-parents in Florida or explored New York. Apart from travelling, I love working with children. In the last years, I was teamleader in various holiday programs where we organized, par example treasure hunts, water games or craft sessions. Last year, I did an internship at an so-called 'early intervention centre', where we help children with specific needs. And therefore a year as an au pair seemed perfect for me.
