Ukrainian couples usually have one to two children, and it remains a somewhat low average number of children per family in Europe. While families have become smaller it is still at the center of the Ukrainian culture, and it is quite common for grandparents to be actively caring for grandchildren and participating in their education. Parents tend to demand a better behavior, in public and at school, and can be perceived as stricter than the normal across Western culture.
Ukrainian au pairs will usually have child care experience through private babysitting of younger siblings and relatives, kids in their neighborhood, etc.
The procedure to obtain a driver’s license in Ukraine is quite complicated! It requires a series of written and practical tests. Ukrainian driving is known to be somewhat chaotic, which can also mean that your Ukrainian au pair will be used to paying attention to the surroundings and drivers around. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Foreign language instruction is mandatory in Ukraine, and four languages are taught: English, German, French, and Spanish. Nearly 90% of students choose to study English.

First of all, I love travelling. When I was younger, my family and I visited a lot of German cities. We also hiked in Austria, went camping in France or sightseeing in Belgium and visited my grand-parents in Florida or explored New York. Apart from travelling, I love working with children. In the last years, I was teamleader in various holiday programs where we organized, par example treasure hunts, water games or craft sessions. Last year, I did an internship at an so-called 'early intervention centre', where we help children with specific needs. And therefore a year as an au pair seemed perfect for me.

I took care of Sophia, who is 5 years old, from March 2024 to December 2024, on weekdays when she was at school. I provided support to her to complete tasks at school and analyzed and proposed adjustments to teaching and assessment methods to help her better interpret instructions. Additionally, I provided anticipation of activities and routines to help Sophia perform them independently and with confidence. From January 2021 to March 2022, I took care of Alejo Benjamin, who was 1 year and 4 months old, on weekends. I gave him dinner, did creative activities with him, and got him ready for bed. From January 2020 to December 2024, I cared for Clementina and Irupé, who were 3 to 5 years old, during summer vacation. I helped them get up, change, and prepared breakfast. I also assisted them with brushing their teeth, organized play activities, took them to the park, and took the oldest to dance and swimming classes.
