What to Expect With an Au Pair From Colombia
As most Latin American countries, Colombians can be described as outgoing, warm-hearted, and sociable people. A Colombian au pair is likely to be flexible on schedule, and will look forward to being a part of the family. A Colombian au pair will usually communicate easily about how she feels.
Colombian couples have on average three children, but have many relatives living nearby. Family is at the center of one's life in Colombia, and get-togethers, family reunions and meals are very common. Colombian children love their family so much that in fact, they tend to move out of their parents' home rather late; they often only settle on their own when they get married.
You can expect your live-in nanny from Colombia to have gained a lot of child care experience through babysitting cousins, nieces, and nephews. It's not very common in Colombia to use a day cares and parents rely heavily on relatives to care of their children.
In Colombia approximately 40% of households own a car. As can be expected, a Colombian au pair is likely to have little driving experience. Some Colombian au pairs take their driver's license as part of their au pair application. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Colombian students are required to learn English from elementary school through high school. The curriculum of English classes focuses more on writing than speaking so you can expect your au pair to be better at writing and reading than listening and speaking. A good idea would be to put in writing your house's rules and your au pair's schedule, at least in the early stages of the program year, to ensure all is understood.

Child Care Experience
From 02/2024 to 09/2024 I cared for Mariana (1) for 3 hours a day, 2 days a week. I assigned tasks, dynamic activities, talking care of her while she sleeps, and going out to the park. From 12/2023 to 03/2024 I cared for Santiago (8) for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. I would prepare breakfast and lunch, reinforce school learning and go out to the park. From 02/2024 to 09/2024 I cared for children between the ages of 1 and 5 years old for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. I assisted in pedagogical activities, help in entering the children's bathroom, planning activities, and help with giving lunches.

I have always been very interested in learning from children, I love to share activities with them because they always teach you even though they do not have a higher education and what I mean is that they show you how to be a person with their kindness and affection. I looked after Camilo (7) from August to November 2020. I prepared meals, made sure he had everything ready for school, dropped him and picked him up from school, helped with homework, and put him to bed. I babysat Simon (4) from March to September 2021. I prepared meals, helped with homework, played with him, helped with night time routine and put him to bed. I babysat Liam (2mths) and Kevin (3) from November 2023 to July 2024. I changed diapers and clothes, fed them, played with them, took them to the park, and put them down for naps. Finally, I volunteered at a child care center from October 2022 to June 2024 twice a week taking care of children ages 3 to 9 years old. I did activities with the children, played with them, cleaned up after them, and accompanied them to the bathroom.

Additionally, from January 2017 to January 2020, I cared for Ivanna, who was 1 year old. My responsibilities included preparing the breakfast, combing her hair, bathing her, dressing her up, playing and doing activities that help with her motor. From January 2023 to October 2024, I was a teacher for Emmanuel a 4-year-old, helped him with his math skills, helped him with recognition and initiation into reading and writing, playing, preparing snacks for him, also helped him to control and recognize his emotions. From January 2023 to October 2023, I was a teacher for Luciana, an 8-year-old. I helped her with homework, explained math to her, played games, helped her to improve her writing and reading.

I'd like to become an au pair for many reasons. First because I love children and everything that includes their care, their attitude, their thoughts and their way of seeing the world, second because my personality combines with that of children, I like creativity, fun and happiness.
