What to Expect With an Au Pair From Colombia
As most Latin American countries, Colombians can be described as outgoing, warm-hearted, and sociable people. A Colombian au pair is likely to be flexible on schedule, and will look forward to being a part of the family. A Colombian au pair will usually communicate easily about how she feels.
Colombian couples have on average three children, but have many relatives living nearby. Family is at the center of one's life in Colombia, and get-togethers, family reunions and meals are very common. Colombian children love their family so much that in fact, they tend to move out of their parents' home rather late; they often only settle on their own when they get married.
You can expect your live-in nanny from Colombia to have gained a lot of child care experience through babysitting cousins, nieces, and nephews. It's not very common in Colombia to use a day cares and parents rely heavily on relatives to care of their children.
In Colombia approximately 40% of households own a car. As can be expected, a Colombian au pair is likely to have little driving experience. Some Colombian au pairs take their driver's license as part of their au pair application. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Colombian students are required to learn English from elementary school through high school. The curriculum of English classes focuses more on writing than speaking so you can expect your au pair to be better at writing and reading than listening and speaking. A good idea would be to put in writing your house's rules and your au pair's schedule, at least in the early stages of the program year, to ensure all is understood.

I babysat Luciana (3) from April 2023 to February 2024. We did activities such as drawing, singing, dancing, going to the park, exploring nature, and playing sports. I babysat Ihan (1) from October 2023 to February 2024. My responsibilities were changing diapers, feeding the child, and planning activities for him. Finally, I babysat Mariana (7) from April to December 2024 on weekends. My responsibilities were helping with homework, practicing singing with her, teaching English, and going for a walks in the nature.

My love for caring for and supporting children was born when I got out of college. One of my best friends gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. I was able to be with her during her pregnancy and the first few months of his life. I took care of Jhonathan and Adriana, aged 6-7 years old, from 02/2024 to 05/2024. My responsibilities included taking them to school and sometimes helping them with their homework, mostly arts and crafts. I cared for Daniel, 1 year old, from 02/2024 to 04/2024. My tasks included following his schedule for breakfast and lunch, bathing him, dressing him, helping him sleep, changing his diaper, and potty training, along with playing and doing various activities. I also looked after Alison Camila, 2 years old, from 06/2024 to 12/2024. Camila is very playful and potty-trained, and my tasks included taking her to the park, helping with meals, bathing her before bedtime, and preparing activities for her. Additionally, I worked at Caritas Fellices Kindergarten with children aged 1-5 years old from 11/2023 to 04/2024. My role involved teaching English words, songs, and activities, leading educational trips, and assisting with meals and sleep.

My duties were: helping them giving baths and feeding them, if necessary, burnishing their teeth, stimulation exercises, painting. From January 2023 to August 2023, I cared Thiago, 4 years old.
