What to Expect With an Au Pair From Colombia
As most Latin American countries, Colombians can be described as outgoing, warm-hearted, and sociable people. A Colombian au pair is likely to be flexible on schedule, and will look forward to being a part of the family. A Colombian au pair will usually communicate easily about how she feels.
Colombian couples have on average three children, but have many relatives living nearby. Family is at the center of one's life in Colombia, and get-togethers, family reunions and meals are very common. Colombian children love their family so much that in fact, they tend to move out of their parents' home rather late; they often only settle on their own when they get married.
You can expect your live-in nanny from Colombia to have gained a lot of child care experience through babysitting cousins, nieces, and nephews. It's not very common in Colombia to use a day cares and parents rely heavily on relatives to care of their children.
In Colombia approximately 40% of households own a car. As can be expected, a Colombian au pair is likely to have little driving experience. Some Colombian au pairs take their driver's license as part of their au pair application. It is always recommended that you discuss your driving needs with your au pair.
Colombian students are required to learn English from elementary school through high school. The curriculum of English classes focuses more on writing than speaking so you can expect your au pair to be better at writing and reading than listening and speaking. A good idea would be to put in writing your house's rules and your au pair's schedule, at least in the early stages of the program year, to ensure all is understood.

Child Care Experience
I looked after Sara (10) and Gabriel (13) from August 2022. I picked them up form school, prepared meals, helped with homework, and played with them. I babysat Antuan (4mths) from September to October 2023. I changed diapers, bottle fed him, played music to him and took him outside for walks in the stroller. I babysat Laura (2) form February to March 2022. I helped her with homework, watched movies and read books together with her and fed her.

From September 2023 to August 2024, I took care of Sara (6), for four hours, Monday to Friday. I got the child ready for school, prepared food and snacks, did child's hair, took child to school, picked up child from school and helped with homework. From June to July 2023, I took care of Samuel (9). I prepared snacks, took child to vacation activities, did laundry, tidied up, played and went swimming with the child. From November 2022 to February 2023, I took care of Ariatna (2). I prepared lunch, did crafts, singing, piano, played and put child down for naps. From October 2022 to March 2023, I helped out at Kindergarten Jungle Kinds with children from 11 months to 6 years of age for four hours on Tuesday to Thursday. I taught English, Math, Spanish, dancing, drawing, singing, and prepared snacks.

I played, supported in extracurricular activities, helped the children organize and prepared food. From February to October 2022, I helped out at Bosques of Sherwood School with children from 7 to 11 years of age. I kept the children safe in the kitchen, taught the children recipes, helped get the children dressed for the kitchen, helped the children pack their things and helped get the children to their transportation.

My duties included taking her to and from school, helping her with her homework, preparing her meals, teaching her English, and reinforcing her math lessons.
